The mission of the North Mississippi Cultural Foundation is to encourage and provide information about the valuable contributions made by individuals throughout North Mississippi; to encourage community awareness through education, while celebrating the rich cultural history of diverse communities.
North Mississippi Cultural Foundation (NMCF) began in February 2010 known as the "Desoto County African American Symposium. NMCF was a response to concerns about the need for enhancing the experience of minorities in Desoto County and to help facilitate the goal of a county supportive of multiple culturalism. Since it's inaugural year the participation has grown from donating can goods/non-perishable items to the Heartland Hands Foundation, which helps to restock their shelves. A college fair and workshops honoring more then 20 individuals for their outstanding work and service to the community. The NMCF objectives are to; encourage multiculturalism, work with scholars and reflect on the history of north Mississippi. Provide networking opportunities through interacting with businesses, government, colleges and it community leaders. Additionally, provide information about the many rich cultural heritage and valuable contributions made to the north Mississippians.
